i don't mind at all there being a side couple. even the previous generation to this story had side couples. but i loved that they all had separate stories. but for this one, i feel like even the main story is incomplete. we just suddenly moved to side stories. whereas the main couple had no proper ending. Moreover, the tension created for the main couple is continuously broken by sudden interruptions by the side couple. Can't fully focus on either of their stories properly. All the build-up in main story followed by an anticlimactic disappointment in side story.
