Probably because the manga is in bookstores where ANYONE can grab them so they have to follow strict censorship laws in order to keep them in bookstores. That’s why djs are usually uncensored. They are indie published and indie sold at stuff like conventions. As for anime, most mainstream animation houses don’t deal with hentai and will only go as far as ecchi. This means the animation houses that DO pick up these yaoi are all hentai studios aka porn studios. Shounen ai can be ecchi which is acceptable to be shown on stuff like crunchy since it’s not 18+. Yaoi is specifically sex filled shounen ai so they’d either have to cut all the sex out or they’d need to use heavy censorship if they wanted to put it on crunchy. It’s too much work so they’d either leave it to the hentai sites. It just depends on who’s doing the work. They believe the author and artist have a duty to take on the burden of making it safe for anyone who grabs it randomly to not get flashed while you wouldn’t really search for yaoi on places like crunchy so why should animation houses go through so much more work over it just to put it on crunchy? That’s the kind of thoughts they have about it.
