i finished the novel last year so forgive me if i get things wrong
og hailey is simply dead. she died when she drowned in the river
roderick is being haunted because his brother found a way to send malicious spirits to him in order to make him go crazy and kill him
lawrence just basically is forced to get over her. he realizes she no longer has any attachment to him so he has to give up on her
he is EXTREMELY strong. he is just restricted in what the things he can do

Does Lawrence have a good ending? Also does Roderick's bro have a really bad ending?
