I guess is sort of a coping mechanism that he can't help but pull away people that are good for him, as we can see that there are people that loved him truly, probably for the trauma that comes from his parents or the teacher. He probably doesn't have much self worth or smth and can't help but hurt people to prevent getting hurt (I could be wrong cuz I'm no expert and I can't read author-nim's mind)
Seeing him that way I think he can change but I don't want him for mc cause there have already been good people around him, haven't change (no one should change for someone else tbh) and hurt them so...
