Idk if this is right. But I think Ashley miller lock his kids up in a punishment room for hours, and miller mimicks other people's emotion, meanwhile chase got a temper because of his childhood trauma. And miller tried to help people in his own selfish way, and believing that his just helping. Meanwhile chase I think change when he met josh he became calmer

But to summarize it to you, Ashley used to lock his kids and punish them because they weren't "normal" from childhood, it all started from the day Grayson poisoned his daddy Koi just to see what would he react.. and none of the other kids did anything as they saw him dying, they just watched in curiosity and amusement.. from that day Ashley realized his father's genes were inherited to all him and his sons and he can't escape the dark fate of these cursed genes that they have (even the last sibling who's an omega is kinda abnormal just like his Alpha brothers, so it doesn't matter whether omega or alpha the madness is still there).. anyways he started punishing them from then on instead of gentle parenting bcs he realized gentleness won't work with them despite Koi disagreeing with him all the times believing his kids will bcm normal and live happy one day. And Grayson grew in that dark atmosphere where he learned to mimick emotions bcs he couldn't even feel them (Ashley even hired top actors and psychiatrists to teach him bcs curing him was useless) .. and he Because of his illness, he couldn't read between the lines, especially when helping people, and he couldn't distinguish between the right and wrong way to help either. For him, as long as a method would help someone, it was right (to him), even if it actually harmed them. His father Ashley never trusted Koi with any of his children after that incident btw.. and he only cared about them distracting their pheromones out bcs he blv if they don't, they'll lose control and evwn bcm crazy due to the rare toxic genes they all inherited from his father (their grandpa Cannon).. and he was aware of Grayson mire than any of his other children bcs he saw his fathet in him the most and blvd he'll never be cured and will always be "different" from others so the only way for him to cooperate with others is by mimicking..And Grayson only believed in "true love" .. the kind he see his papa Ashley and daddy Koi living.. but with time he'll start leaening emotions slightly with our Dan..There's a lot more but this is the general.. hope I helped I'm not very good in giving infos. I read novel about Grayson, so respond only about him.
If talking about Grayson, he was born with kinda sociopath traits, couldn't read people's emotions and did some messed up things as a kid towards his family members. Not on purpose, sometimes he just tried to "help", sometimes he just didn't understood he doing bad thing. Well, but sometimes he also doesn't mind harming others for his benefit, like when he considered to set fire station on fire.
His alpha father Ashley saw Grayson doing some f*cked up things, and was terrified thinking Grayson can become like their grandfather, who was terrible person.
So Ashley kinda messed up as a father. He went with Grayson to a lot of psychiatrists around the world and tried to "fix" his sociopathic traits, but it didn't work.
Ashley failed to understood Grayson and kinda failed as a father in some ways. He made his main goal to raise Grayson with purpose Grayson never would k*ll anyone. And tried to control Grayson. As he didn't managed reach to Grayson's humanity he made sure Grayson would "obey" to him and wouldn't do bad things if Ashley said him to. Which led to Ashley being abusive father and doing messed up sh*t like locking up Grayson and "punishing" him.
As Grayson didn't understand some things, Ashley also didn't understand Grayson and made some messed up mistakes in raising him.
Which led to what's happening now.
