He's just a simple guy who doesn't know the existence of overthinking, in his head, he like to see his friend feel good so much that he’ll moan. That's why he asked they friends how to make it feel good. For him, that's enough indication that he likes his friend that way, it became clear when he asked Oka if he will allow Kodai to touch him, both of them agreed that they only feel this for each other and not just any men.
I get you though because I'm the overthinking type as well but my bestfriend is the simple type, so I learned how simple minded people see the world as well and honestly, I envy them sometimes

I can understand why Mao felt embarrassed to bring it up since he wasn't very self-aware. Oka was just trying to be a good friend by comforting him, and everything seemed fine at first. But then Mao became really curious about gay porn, which eventually led him to want to try those things himself. To me, it felt like he was pressuring Oka into becoming sexually intimate, even though Oka didn't want to at first and only gave in later.
That made me upset because it seemed like Mao liked Oka both sexually and as a friend. Oka didn't even question what their relationship was, and then Mao suddenly decided they should become a couple. In Chapter 4, Mao says, "That solves the issue, won't it? Then we can do more sex stuff."
That line made it seem like Mao wanted to date Oka mainly so they could be more sexually intimate, which made their relationship feel a little uncomfortable to me. ╮(￣▽￣)╭
