She was definitely isolated, by peers, and even at the count's manor (we literally see her get disrespected left and right by the servants) . in that environment where everyone disliked her, it's completely expected that she would cling to even the tiniest bit of affection in the first timeline.
also on the second point, she has very little cards at hand. furthermore, wilhelmina is under the princess, so it's not wise for her to make an enemy out of her.
