It might be bare minimum for human standards, but I do think it hits different with Kaii-san! The manga has shown us time and time again how Kaii-san constantly scares Asuka-san with how differently he views and acts when presented with certain situations. It really emphasizes that he's a monster that doesn't quite understand human ideals on many things like what's appropriate or trivial, he has made numerous mistakes and been slowly trying to learn from them.
Respecting a partner's boundaries and consent could very well be concepts he doesn't quite understand as a monster, but has learned is something important to human relationship—and who knows, his desire for Asuka could be way darker and scarier than we realize. Him obliterating his hand just to avoid doing something Asuka doesn't like really feels like he's fighting a monstrous urge while making sure he's extra cautious with their relationship for Asuka's sake.
I love how Znd_Shi leans into that dynamic, Kaii always maintains that non-human, slightly scary quality to his interactions with Asuka, but he clearly seems to make an effort on learning to interact with humans.
