The circumstances before the time skip will be explained in detail later in the story. You'll understand why they had to seperate for so long. Trust the process.
It is confusing, but it's set up the same way the novel is. I was so confused reading the novel because I didn't understand his back story with Director Kim and it took a really long time to finally explain it, and honestly it didn't explain it all that well. Seeing the pictures in the manhwa helped me understand a bit more what had happened there.
Honestly the time skip of them from high school to now was poorly executed. Like when the season started all of us in the comments were completely confused because it seemed like there was a legit chapters missing missing specifically with MCs relationship with the douche bag. Idk, i know this series is mostly light angst and fluff so it's nbd but I do think there was more potential here to be had
