ok hot take and ik how this genre works ofc there’s gonna be a ml but i really don’t want richelle or allan to get together..like richelle had so much pressure from her mom to marry someone like the otis heir and it would just rub me the wrong way if they did end up tgt and continue the otis line..same w allan and how rogers tried to set him up w her…like idk there’s more to life than romance why can’t their alliance be platonic not every male female duo needs to be romantic ffs let’s stick to horror and heartwarming?? :(( i just don’t like romance in my fantasy in general so that’s just me there’s a bajillion shoujo fantasies w romance why can’t the subversive horror one stay subversive TT also like her mother was horrible to her and she had no resentment towards her during her funeral?? like my relationship w my mom is also very complicated like richelle’s but i don’t like how richelle just got reduced to “omg i love my mommy ik we fight but i don’t want to anymore so im gonna forget everything she’s done to me and the ppl in our house and the poverty and trauma and responsibilities shoved onto me omg my poor mommy!! even tho she lied to me and harassed anna for money and my location i still love her she’s my family and ik she still loves me deep down despite all this emotional abuse and neglect” this happened w edgar towards neil as well..wtf is this theme of forgiving shit family members?? like you can still resent them and wish to get through to them and realize that they’ll never change and it’s best to distance urself??
not to mention why did richelle tell allan to live but then they both decided to end the gardener’s life?? they both suffered and begged for someone to kill them but only one of them gets to live and see that there’s still joy to be found?? like yes they’ll live w ptsd forever but live isn’t all ups and it’s also abt learning how to grow around and endure the downs blah blah the full human experience. one could argue that the gardener was never meant to live that long but bc of his decades and decades of suffering doesn’t that just make it all the more necessary to remind him of the joys to be found and the memories to be made?? very hypocritical and sloppy if u ask me..like why would u kill one and not the other and why would u let one live and not the other?? what makes one of them deserving of being saved and not the other?? was the gardener just used as a plot device to show allan the weight of someone dying in his hands?? to inspire him to not be the same?? to show the contrast and growth between how far he’s come w richelle vs where he originally was?? why isn’t richelle also able to save the gardener?? they wanted to save jaqueline, but why not the gardener??
