And it really shouldn’t have to be a “woke” thing it should be proper tagging, trigger warnings, authors letting audiences know before their intended kinks and tropes as they apply. It’s fiction I perfectly understand people are welcome to write and in turn read about they want. That’s the freedom. But when the genre is just a giant profitable exploit of sexual violence and somehow no one is willing to engage with what that means meaningfully other than provide circular conversation of authors writing what readers want and readers reading what authors write does not change or reform a genre that has ALWAYS realized on visually glamorizing, the subject matter be damned, it’s just exhausting to fight people saying read something else, when your option is 10 more stories just like this and 1 story of actual healthy love, romance, and respect. The fact this is catered to women is the irony.

When everyone on this forum was saying oh look how cute the second couple is, oh look it’s an alpha bottoming for a beta, oh the ex deserves to be dicked down for his transgressions. Did he deserved be RAPED as we just witnessed? I fucking loath pretty tops for this exact reason they represent the halo effect of bad behavior and pretty privilege. I fucking loath the ex being brought back as a side couple for this reason other than lazy writing. I fucking loath omegaverses where alphas bottoming w/o acknowledging the metaphor of hypermasculinity and its intersectionality of toxic masculinity/ misogyny/ and subjugation. I am not remotely surprised we got the chapter we got because you learn to just see the patterns in what a genre prioritizes if you read enough of it. This genre prioritizes titillating sex no matter how we got there.
Most BL authors do not have the nuance to write well written queer men without including every trope I’ve listed with a healthy sprinkle of sexual violence. I know everyone is welcome to their take in how they engage, interpret, and consume media. But BL as a whole in Southeast/ East Asian ( Japan, china, South Korea, Thailand) has really started to just sour for me, as you genuinely cannot escape chapters like 49 without a hundred other people who will fight you tooth and nail to excuse, romanticize, and rationalize a man not ready to be fully intimate with his new partner could be treated by a partner like this who “loves” him. Fucking disgusting. And this post is for those who will come into this story simply reading the other many posts that will herald this as welcomed fiction and not in any way provide an accurate depiction for naive readers weeding into the unknown. And I know this is an issue surrounding the romance genre as a whole. But when an entire genre is simply known for its less than favorable attributes, at some point you have to acknowledge the stench.
