He did a lot of dangerous jobs for lower pay in Korea. Since he was an illegal foreigner with no id and he kept his mouth shut about everything except that tyr is his daughter. She was the one who helped his rent a room in her apartment building and even find him jobs. What use is his magic and sword skill? That isn't going to fill his stomach or put a roof over his head. If he even let his magic power known then he would be treated as some kind of monster. They really suffered a lot.
