after being treated like shit for so long, she just lost her love for him. she's not even angry or disgusted by his behavior. i know it's the result of years of manipulation, but she's a ppl pleasing doormat. and it seems that this personality type is not only not recognized for what it is, a trauma response, but glorified as the ideal kind woman in japanese media.
like even her reason for breaking the engagement is for him, bc she wants him to be with the one he loves (aka the girl he kissed) and not bc he's an asshole that deserves to be beat up and left to die
anyway, TLDR I'm not gonna read that shit
"i love her so i want to posses her entirely even if it means destroying her self esteem" is such a disgusting way to "love". it isn't love, it's selfishness and a "strategy" borne of his own inferiority complex.
and the worst part for him is that if he truly cherished her and helped her discover her true affinity and supported her by her side, they would've been just fine together. she was in love with him, or at least had affection for him, up until he destroyed it himself.
