A dynamic you don’t like isn’t bad writing

I got scared from all the comments saying he was bad, but I thought they were being dramatic and I’d still like it bc I love mean MLs. And I was right. I did get a little scared when it did the (spoiler) fake out assaulting the sister, like idk if I would’ve been able to enjoy it after that. But I love this dynamic, really really shitty ML who it’s obvious the arc isn’t that he becomes a better person but just that he starts actually liking the MC, and an MC who’s bratty and not helpless. I love a bad personality ML, they’re so entertaining. And it’s not bad writing, bc this is like a lighthearted comedy with some rough smut, it’s not trying to give you nuanced character depth, like if you don’t like the dynamics that’s not the authors fault that’s just your personal opinion. I eat it up though excited for more.

I beg to differ at this is just a lighthearted comedy and it's not trying to give nuanced character depth. It's hinting that Hanan is struggling with a serious issue which is his trauma of being in a near death experience and that shapes his character, and it's pretty obvious the author is gonna use that in terms of character growth and relationship dynamics. Also, saying "it's not bad writing" is also your personal opinion, 'cause your reading experience is, at the end of the day, a biased perspective.

I mean nuanced character depth mostly about their relationship, like it’s obvious the ml isn’t gonna get an arc to be a better person, he’s supposed to be a toxic asshole and he’s gonna stay like that

If the author decides to create depth for Hanan, it will also affect their relationship. And ofc, if the ml isn't gonna be developed, he would pale in comparison and that's when people usually criticize the author's writing which is very valid. You only said the story's not gonna give us any nuanced character and not specifically the ml, so I answered there's a possibility with Hanan. With ml, tho, it's also possible to create a multifaceted character using trashy ml, and I'm not talking about how he's gonna turn from toxic to a better person, but it's how the author is gonna use his ties to an organized crime and his interest in Hanan to flesh out his character. It's still only the beginning, you can't say for certain that he's gonna stay one dimensional
