One of my observations early into the story was that O-ten's mother might not stay with her lover for long. Now I might not be correct, but I was like it's kind of funny that she left to be with her lover and left her child behind because her lover didn't want children, which begs the question as to what happens with any future children she has. She was able to leave O-ten with her legal husband, but what is she going to do with another child if her lover is so against raising children. My thinking was that eventually the two would split because they couldn't agree on the issue, but I could be wrong and she's still with the guy.
Regardless, who knows what her intentions are. HOWEVER, I have hope that things will not go downhill this time. Toraji and Yaetatsu have both grown in many ways, and the fact that Yaetatsu has even asked Toraji directly to help him and that Toraji has directly asked to be O-ten's father are great signs. My guess is that Yaetatsu either received letters from his legal wife or she asked to visit O-ten. I just don't want them to suffer, like poor O-ten has panic attacks at the idea of having to lie about her mother. Imagine what meeting her mother would do to her, and what happens when her mother leaves? And it would be stupid for her mother to want to take her away because she abandoned O-ten first and it would be cruel to rip her away from the only life she knows. I just hope the mother doesn't want to return to her "rightful" place because she lost it when she ran away, and the family of three has the full support of those around them so she shouldn't try to separate them.
