Completed the anime today, safe to say it's definitely an underrated gem. Honestly though, the biggest flaw for me that this story has presented is the utter lack of likeable characters. The only reason why I kept going was bc of Yukiya and the court politics bc I love political drama about power struggles. I'm not too keen on Yukiya's personality either per se, I would've immediately dropped this if Yukiya was an insufferable dumbass. His intelligence is his biggest attractive feature as a MAIN character.
Nevertheless, oh how I really dislike the supporting cast. Each and everyone of them, especially the Crown Prince and his entitled possé. I hate how he's portrayed as some sort of immaculate misunderstood hero by the narrative but his actions and treatment of Yukiya has shown me everything I needed to know. Till the end, I refused to shove the empathy the story repeatedly tries to force down my throat. They're all literally so incompetent but have the nerve to look down on my boy Yukiya, I'm just glad he got a "happy" ending at least.
Sorry if you expected a good review, I'm more of a critic than anything. Still, it's quite decent for all it's misgivings. 7/10
