so! let’s talk albinism.. overall lacking melanin sucks. melanin is used for more than just UV radiation protection (aka upper layers of skin) it’s also found in the brain, inner ear, hair, and most notably, the eyes. birds with albinism have weakened feathered, poor eyesight, and low survival rates. leucism, on the other hand, is when an animal has a partial loss of melanin, and our FLs bird form literally looks like a classic leucistic bird. she has white feathers (lack of pigmentation), but with pigmented eyes and legs. leucism has a much better outlook, as they are less susceptible to UV damage and vision problems. our FL has pink eyes so i expected a true albino bird.. but the author gave her a weak body and a fuck ton of trauma no need to tack shitty eyesight onto that. also, why is the kid bird form never the same species, like c’mon give me a silly lookin pheasant chick that molts into an adult form, not some bushtit that magically becomes a magnificent bird. #-.-)
I saw a comment before that she used her powers when she was inside her mother's womb to save the mom's life (but still ended up dead), that's why she has white feathers because she ALLEGEDLY drained her powers. Idk about the bird species tho
Because child form must always look cute in a shoujo If want different bird, then you can find some at Shounen or Action. Anyway, she looks like a "Snow Fairy" (Shima-Enaga)

so she used all her bodies melanin (including in her eyes.. bc doesn’t have yellow eyes like her family) to heal her mom.. interesting, didn’t know melanin could do that lmao
