While there’s a lot of variety it’s no stretch to say it is a trope in BL to have the “bottom” be more traditionally feminine than the top. I think it’s got something to do with society and culture. Specifically how people put in the “receiving” role are treated and the language used.
Short answer BL is marketed towards women.
You can tell when a story is written by gay men for gay men vs by women for women. I don't wanna go tm on the ladies bc theyre the backbone of the bl community but theres definitely many issues that need to be addressed in said community. Like someone else said its mostly marketed toward women, and some of those women like to self insert...however those kinds of stories are getting less and less popular. There's an abundance of buff bottoms and manly men compared to 6-8 years ago, if you wanna try anything like that out i recommend you do bc its great and usually written better.
