Cos its not really enemies to lovers in the sense that they genuinely hate each other. Chase is just really really defensive and traumatized hence the very guarded often violent outbursts. He does that to everyone else, especially those he dont know well. Its more of a misunderstanding trope. Once he let josh in, he also let his defense down.
The way i understand it, typical princess rescue stuff. They alr had that initial attraction but chase has his walls up and even more guarded like a wounded animal since he denies the attraction. And after the cayote rescue, he felt the sense of unbridled attraction and even more intense desire like wow this man doesnt pose any harm to me but actually wants to protect me and oh look at his cute bloodied face and that cute plumpy ass. Like how princess rescues falls inlove with their heroes. Or smth like that. The attraction may seem instant, but it was just boiling at the pit of his heart and dic ready to burst anymoment by a single trigger.
Dont worry you were polite. I hope also im not condescending in my tone. I genuinely just want s to clarify some confusions cos i love this story and i dont want people to be put off by if cos of misunderstanding.

Ah it might just be me but didn’t the enemies to lovers die out way to fast? Like it just suddenly switched where chase put all his trust in Joshua… I wished it was a bit more spreaded out atleast.. for the rest the story is good I was just kind of taken aback by how chase suddenly got so affectionate with a flip of a switch
