I watched the anime which is named after this specific book in the Saiyuki saga. I absolutely loved it! But the this manga which is the 3rd manga in the series has some differences from the anime. It is not as detailed nor does it transition as smoothly as the anime does from one leg of their story to the next. This book and the 2nd shows flashbacks to Goku and the gang with Nataku in heaven but I have not seen any mention of that in these three books so far. I am following a guide that tells me which order to read these in and hopefully it is right it seems like it so far. Yet, the books have not yet fleshed out what the flashbacks are alluding to so if I had not watched the anime I would be so pissed off and lost thinking "who are those people, what are these flashbacks alluding to?" So, was the mangaka counting on everyone watching the anime or are they going to get into it in the next book?
Also, it bothers me that Kumari has the same mark on her forehead as the demons or whatever they are and she is hanging around a demon (unbeknownst to others I'm sure) but no one says anything about it. What does the mark mean/symbolize? Of course the demon is part of that fake wannabe priest's gang.
