Hot take ig but I still like varkas I think he’s feeling a similar way towards Thalia as Thalia does towards him. Varkas still obv cares v deeply for her, so watching her continuously hurt others at the expense of herself, must be extreme. he wishes she were dead so that it could spare him the same emotional turmoil of loving someone u can’t have,, but w the addition of watching them ruin themselves. It’s j that varkas said it aloud (after watching her almost die) and Thalia didn’t.
That’s what I’m choosing to believe anyway so I can still root for the main couple and enjoy the story
Plus Varkas’s words don’t truly reflect his feelings as closely as his actions do due to trauma and even then, it’s still very rough… he’s also got responsibilities as a duke w the first princess and as the captain of the knights or wtv
