I think its just perspective and the way society came to see her due to her sister’s words. The first time she was deeply traumatized by being called ugly was in her childhood by this one boy who liked her sister iirc, and the 2nd is now when her sister orchestrated the bullying. Aside from that, the nobles and other people around her don’t actually find her horrifying or ugly. She’s not gorgeous but she’s definitely average looking with a hardworking girl aesthetic. I’d say in the novel we were also being led to believe she was uglier than she is cuz mc kept downplaying her looks due to low self esteem.
