He’s a green flag for teach but a red flag for everyone one else? Honestly, I don’t see him as a red flag. He’s a man surviving an apocalypse. Anything done to survive is something I can forgive tbh. If that means strict rules and executions of those who break the rules (btw the villagers made the rules and are the ones who push guwon into following them) then that’s survival. If others see that as a red flag though, that’s fair enough. I’m just personally pro “kill them when they try to kill us” in a survival situation.

I’m not gonna reread the whole book to figure out which chapter and page specifically but it’s where the dude stole medication and guwon dispatched him. The lady said that they were saved by guwon but he seemed cold and stuff so they made rules for the villagers and guwon to follow in order to stop him from willy nilly killing anyone who causes trouble. Thing is that guwon had no part in making the rules or anything. He was told them after the fact and just followed them. Even when it came to the “trial” that happened, the VILLAGERS were the judge, jury and executioner. All guwon did was do the dispatch himself. The villagers voted and made their decision and got voters remorse afterwards. They invented this whole issue. No one knows if guwon would have killed willy nilly or if he would have been diplomatic because no one asked him or gave him a chance. They just know that guwon kills those outside the walls who could or could not be infected. In fact, if anyone bothered to ask questions, they would realise that guwon is an impressionable as a newborn baby and subject to influence so they could have moulded him to be another way. He’s a beige flag at best and an amber flag at worst imo.

Wowwww I never thought about that, but that comes back to like the first question we ask ourselves when we first read it : is Guwon even human ??? Because the fact that he has no moral compass whatsoever, or just the fact that he acts like it’s his first time on Earth when he looks in his 30s…

Yeah so he could be human with amnesia or he could be a new type of maggot or he could be a new species created artificially. This is set a few years into the apocalypse so it definitely would have been enough time to make an artificial humanoid species or a genetically modified humanoid species. And knowing researchers and scientists, they think of themselves akin to the god of gods so it makes sense to call it project Sisyphus since they often name things based on myths. Sisyphus being the myth of a human king who cheated death and defied the gods (multiple gods) and Zeus (king of gods) was angry with that so he punished Sisyphus and condemned him to roll a huge boulder up the hills of Tartarus only for it to roll back down to the bottom every time he almost reached the top.

Knowing this, I think guwon was a man who was born with incredible genetics and grew to be an extremely strong person (possibly influential and wealthy judging by the amount of expensive jewellery he has and that he lives in the most influential part of town) and someone didn’t like that so they did something to him and that something included wiping his memories and making him a clean slate so they could use him for their own gain. Kind of how wild horses were domesticated by breaking the will of the horse and making them feel defeated and lost then giving them purpose and affection when they do what you want. It’s a theory I’ve had since I read the title and the more I read, the more I’m sure he was a very influential person who survived assassination attempts and pissed off some very dangerous people. Of course, I’m open to other theories but I’ve yet to hear a more compelling one.
