God, I relate to this so much it hurts to the “my sister stole my crush” trope. I was 12, my sister was 13, one year apart. Our parents sent us to this bougie boarding school basically trying to turn me from a total tomboy into some proper, etiquette-perfect young lady. Yeah… that didn’t work at all. It was full of rich kids, and I figured I wouldn’t click with anyone there( cause I’m really alt). Then I met this guy in the dining hall and caught the biggest one-sided crush. He was nice to people, sweet, whatever. So I started trying to act better, dress nicer, all that embarrassing stuff. I know, I know! pick-me behavior, but I was twelve, okay? Be nice to me. Then one day his friends come up to my sister while she’s with me and straight-up tell her that he likes her. I was devastated. Like actually cried hard that night ,first and last time I’ve ever cried over a guy, by the way. I told my sister I liked him and gave her the silent treatment for a while because I was hurt and dramatic. But she ended up turning him down… and he got really pushy about it, kinda creepy. She got scared and told me, so I had to step in and cuss him out. I even got physical with him at one point. Messy. We graduated early,I was 15. A couple years later, when I was 17, he hits me up out of nowhere saying he actually always liked me, not her. That he didn’t know how to approach me back then, and something about how when he was younger he wasn’t really into “exotic” girls but now he wants to try with me. …Bro. I literally had to fight you over my sister and now you’re telling me this?? It’s actually hilarious looking back. I’m 19 now, pansexual, mostly into women, and this whole thing is just one of those unhinged core memories that makes me laugh every time. Life is so weird, man ☠☠
