So, in a short explanation, humans have 3 souls that hold them together. Mun-ryeong got all of them shattered after receiving divine punishment and, later on, escaping from hell as a demonic centipede and using his powers and all that. In order to elongate his life for a few months, the spirit of a woman (who Ryeong helped long ago) tells them he needs to consume souls condensated in a stone made from the blood absorbed by earth. Also warned them about the similar stone made by snakes, which would just kill him.
So they found this kid (a disciple of an ascendant) who helped them with the moving mountain to move faster, but Ryeong saw there was something weird about him and then they got attacked by those bird demons. Jae too realises the kid is weird cause he was able to know he was the vanished prince from the black turtle palace, when no one normal should be able to read his energy like that. That's why he realises he's either a snake or turtle, explaining why the kid also had demonic energy.
Ryeong takes control of the mountain and moves it between the marsh (where the bird demons are, who only attack Ryeong cause they eat evil spirits who harm humans, and he is a centipede) and a crater, where he believes the stone is. Thing is, to find the stone they need the reflection of the moon on the surface of the water, but the crater is dry, which is why he asks the other two to accumulate the water of the mountain and makes it rain above it. All those instructions on how to find the stone were given by the woman in the form of a cryptic story or legend, Ryeong figured it out on his own and that's why they're doing all this to find it.
