Read this as someone who hates these tropes of promiscuous traumatized bottom x sunshine virgin top since it was short and honestly - it was p fucking good ngl. It def needed more chapters to wrap up the story a lil better, especially with the bottom’s family issues and SA, but it wasn’t bad to see em happy.
More in depth with it: Since it’s a short story I feel like I did like that they didn’t emphasize any of the SA the bottom was going through or have an entire chapter on it - you get the insinuations of it and as a reader that’s really all you need. You can assume he also commits a lot of self harm by sleeping with randoms as a way to gain control of himself since his brother took that away from him.
I love the way the top also isn’t his be-all cure, but the beginning of it with the top also sets his boundaries in some way. He wants to be there for the person he likes, but he can’t force the person he likes to like himself and that would overall hurt him more. The top still likes him but he knows better than to try and force something when someone like him needs to like himself first. So he gives him space, which was desperately needed for the bottom to realize things about himself.
Bonus points that this is a bottom chasing top situation after hurting him. I’ve always disliked a doormat, but ones that hold their own is always refreshing.
It’s a nice story of (albeit quick) self healing that def needed a bit more to be rounded out, but overall not a bad read.
