PEAK. All “reincarnated into villain” stories touch on this but this story particularly demonstrates how our minds can be such unreliable narrators. Like when kavaar thought Elise didnt kill the emperors and just took the blame because no one would listen to her. That made me pause as a reader because even though it was very wrong it felt like it could be true or something I may also assume if this was the original Elises story. Which drove home the point that many of the characters motivations in this story were driven by their perceptions of other peoples feelings they never actually understood. My only gripe is I would have liked an epilogue on the real Eris being happy. Unlike the empress, eris mother, helena, and MC, og elise never knew anyone loved her. Didn't even love herself enough to exist and just disappeared little mermaid turning into seafoam style. I do love that the revenge for the prince is helena treating him with the same indifference as his mother, most likely driving him to the realization that the only person who loved him disappeared. helena was a nice person but to everyone and really only catered to him because she had to. When he drove eris to disappear he was getting rid of the only person who would have given him what he truly was looking for, which was sincere attention and care.
