She wanted to atone for leaving them and she wanted roth to obsess over her rather than move on from her so its not the best ending but it aint a bad ending for them at least. They end up being with each other as they wanted and living well so alls well.

I think it's more about how they framed the ml at the end in my opinion they tried to give the ml a justifiable reason to punish Anna who I'm not even sure she's of legal age since she was a middle schooler when she was summoned and still was when she returned the story was already dark and filled with toxic relationships

She was about 20 when she got there. It was only shown in the background as a diary entry in one of the chapters which I don't remember the exact number.

Yeah I mean I didnt think that this was bad I found it ok at best and kinda confusing at worse mostly bcs of the massive info dump they give in the final few chapters

I just wanted her to clarify that she was going back to her family because he thought she went back for a man. They still end the story with a misunderstanding

I don't see the ending as bad nor it was good because imo, it was quite an unexpected twist that Anna has such a twisted desire in her that makes her look like a demoness, so yeah. But I hoped that they would be happy together in a healthy relationship, not that of obsession and twisted definition of love.

iirc she had left him a letter before leaving. That's what his dad was burning when Rothbart came to kill him. Now, how much that letter actually explained is unknown since she wanted him to hate her since it'd mean he didn't forget about her. He also assumed (something more evident in the novel) that she'd left him for a man, not her ailing mother, and so when she was resummoned with her bf that led him to believe he was right.
Some people have called out him having her diary and knowing the truth from that, but something that's shown in the recent sidestory is that they don't write in the same language. He couldn't read her diary if she wrote it in hangul. When she got her memories back? She fel all the guilt and remorse she hadn't felt for the years away pile on all at once and wanted some kind of punishment. Some people are like that where they feel they need to be punished for something to feel better about it. We know from her backstory with her parents that she feels strongly about bearing suffering and getting what she deserves. In her case, the curse on her legs as a way to show him she really had no intention of ever leaving him again.
