he's clearly sexually assaulted him and has even threatened him with rape in many scenes u can clearly tell that mc is unwilling/never explicitly consents lmao and "not pushing him away" shouldn't be an indication of consent: there's a clear power imbalance in their relationship and mc isn't in the position to be able to outright reject his advances
Soo Young fell unconscious during sex and Jihwan kept going I don't know for how long. As everyone knows an unconscious person cannot give consent to continue having sex That would be considered rape. During sex if your partner says "no" at any point you must stop even if they initially gave consent. Consent can be withdrawn at any time If they become unconscious they are no longer able to give or continue consent so any sexual activity must stop .
Again, I'm definitely not defending him! Dude's fucked up! The threat about rape, definitely not cool, he should not be doing any of these things to him. I only mentioned the "not pushing him away" thing because in another episode, (possibly the next one) jihwan is kissing him and Soo-young is like "ok your time is up" and Jihwan stops and leaves him alone so it seems like when he actually tells him to stop he does, a lot of times, and the times he doesn't tell him to stop he makes comments in his internal dialog about getting turned on or kind of liking it, so it's very ambiguous about whether he is into it or not. But the name is Edge of Ambiguity so I think that's the authors goal is to not make those kinds of things crystal clear. This is shown a lot more in the upcoming episodes though so I think I'm getting ahead of myself with my perspective on it.
All of this is true, I would not argue against any of it. I guess for me it seems like I can barely think of any manhwas in the hundreds I've read where the uke or the woman doesn't say "no, stop, wait, it's too deep, it feels weird, wait, stop, no, stop" at some point while having sex. I don't know why they always put that in, I assumed it was a cultural thing like it makes them seem more innocent or something, I don't really know, but I personally hate this aspect of manhwas. I would definitely prefer for them to just seem like they are also enjoying it, but since it happens so frequently I don't always look at them saying that as removal of consent and use other context clues to try to figure out if they mean that or they are just saying it because it's almost always said. In this case the character said after the fact that he had sex consensually, so I was curious about what made people decide that in this case it was rape when I don't see comments like that on a lot of other stories where the bottoms say the same kind of things during sex. And the passing out thing, again I personally hate it and don't understand why it's put in there, but I see it very frequently in stories where I don't see people talking about rape so I don't automatically take it to mean rape every time I see it, so I was curious since there were so many comments saying rape, why other people saw it that way this time and if there was just something I missed or forgot about because to me when character states they had sex because they wanted to, I see it as a consensual act. This only applies to these fictional stories though, which operate outside the realm of reality. None of this has anything to do with my opinion on real life situations.
In real life? Yes! 100% of the things you said, 100% of the time with no exceptions.
lowkey i appreciate the calm response! sometimes i think compared to all the other insane rapeslop on the internet we can tend to feel like one form of behavior is "less abusive" or we fail to actually call it out, but when you take away the standards we normalize upon the bl genre these actions are ultimately still wrong/they are still considered sa. this isn't necessarily your fault because people can easily become desensitized to things they are frequently exposed to! as you mentioned earlier, dubious consent to sex is common in a lot of manhwas so you've began to overlook the things like the words "no" or "stop" but i think when interacting with media we have to be aware of any themes that are important/heavy irl and how we should perceive these topics! also just want to mention that victims of rape can still feel physical pleasure because the body's physical responses to stimuli are something that we cannot control and therefore shouldn't be used to indicate someone willing to have sex/someone accepting sex ^^

I'm not defending Jihwan because he's insane and literally holding him captive and doing all the insane shit, but a lot of people are calling him a rapist and I don't think he ever raped him unless I'm completely forgetting something? They only had sex that 1 time that I can think of and Soo-young specifically says he had sex with him that night because he wanted to, even though he now questions why he made that decision. I don't think he considers it rape. The kissing and stuff is kinda forced on him, but he doesn't really push him away all the time either so I don't know. Again, not defending the bad guy, he's definitely crazy and absolutely wrong in all the things he's doing, he's not good for sure, but I don't think he raped him unless I'm forgetting something, which is entirely possible.
**there is a possibility Soo-young hasn't talked about how he wanted to have sex that night yet. The raws I read on Ridi are several chapters ahead of this so maybe he says it in a future chapter, I can't remember exactly when he said it, but I know he did say that.
