I liked how they did the eyes, very enigmatic and dramatic. It was interesting how the mc kept getting tangled up with the original story plot points despite trying so hard to change things. I appreciate the age of the mc, even with that amount of time, it would have been hard to learn everything and set up everything. It's always been pretty unrealistic for these young protagonists to somehow deal with the total culture shock, the loss of family, and then become a major player in the world setting in a few years. The age gap doesn't bother me, it's clear that the ml wasn't groomed. The mc understood that the story was trying to play itself out, even if certain characters were missing, and he grappled with that early on. This wasn't a story where the ml only knew the mc, he was well socialized, even if he found it unpleasant. It was clear that the mc was ready to step away as soon as the ml had a stable place.
