I don't think you can compare real life to fiction. In fiction, the onus is on the writer to convey the message. In this case, the entire thing was caused by a misunderstanding, of which the author purposely dragged the reveal in order to create drama, and in this case, an unnecessary one. Misunderstanding trope is wildly hated, so it's not strange why instead of empathy, it would frustrate the readers. Had the characters actually communicate, none of this would have happened.
Im not directly comparing a real life event to fiction. Im comparing the reaction to such an event happening. Someone is trying to kill themselves after being abused their whole life and kept in the dark by the person they love. If this happened to someone in real life, i’ll feel bad for them. If this happens in fiction, i feel bad for them. Would all this be fixed if the miscommunication was fixed? Yes. But is it fixed right now? No. Frustration shouldnt exempt empathy.
Kinda alarming how many people here are making fun of the situation. Its 2026 and theres still people who think depressed people are dramatic or cringe??? Have some shame. A depressed person who has severe trauma who believes that another person he cares about is leaving while he’s actively being harassed by another stalker– and is now becoming suicidal. No wonder people nowadays dont even bat an eye to killings and genocides happening in front of them.
