Honestly I do understand where the legitimate children's hatred is coming from and this is why I'm torn on each sides( Not excusing the whole shit they'd pull off later on )

but coming from the perspective of the legitimate children who's forced to accept their stepsister from a WOMAN who seduced their cheating father and had caused pain on their biological mother, plus not to mention how the mistress also tried to erase the traces of the previous queen out of selfishness.
I feel like the two have all the right to feel anger actually, they are villains who does have valid reasons to loathe the fl and her mother

I wonder if others also sees the same thing because this manhwa does have nuance to it that is worth looking into

--

It lowk piss me off how people can be one sided just because the fl is in a sorry state. Like sure there is that but god do I hate default favoritism

Yes the hate is understandable but very clearly misplaced. They are not children anymore to still be acting the way they do now towards fl imo

The way I see it is that fl is not helping her situation to better her relationship with her siblings. She is also not a child anymore so it's not an exemption on her part if we apply the same reason

The FL is clearly lashing out because of the trauma caused by constant loneliness she goes through. None of her attempts at finding an ally have been successful. She's a tool to her mother. She's a burden and an obstacle to her half siblings. Her nanny is still even around her only cause she sees her mother in her. Barkas is fed up with everyone cause he has to pick up everybody's messes and has his own fair share of trauma too. Everyone in the palace deems her crazy cause she lashes out. She never learned how to control her emotions and never had a healthy way of dealing with her emotions either. She's so traumatized that she can't function properly. Her reaching adulthood isn't going to magically make her stop and understand what she's doing wrong. No matter how many people are around her she's always alone. The siblings have also gone through a lot as you yourself said but they always had the support they needed. They had a chance to grow up in a much better environment. Them feeling hateful towards Thalia and her mother is very understandable and it honestly makes sense. But comparing them to her is just a hard thing to do since their situations are opposites if you think about it.

I agree to most of ur points but I'd like to disagree on the fact that the legitimate siblings has to accept her as their sister just because they had the support they needed as you said.

As much as Thalia is entitled to her outburst because of her own trauma and circumstances which is understandable in a psychological view. The two siblings however is also entitled to put boundaries from their stepsister and stepmother (This does not necessarily mean the abuse is justified, it's the fact that their feelings in this case is also valid)

You see, readers has put the burden over the siblings that they SHOULD accept Thalia as their sister when infact Thalia herself has not ever earned that acknowledgement. Her tantrums and attitude may be understandable in the readers perspective, but in the siblings perspective they are not fully aware of everything about her. It's also not simply that EASY to accept a part of the woman who had help made their mother suffer.

There are some factors that made them continue to act that way towards her since Thalia keeps feeding the flame of hatred- no it's rather the two sides actually. They keep on this competitive feud because setting boundaries and seeking for validation altogether has been converted into this hateful behavior, and it does not address what each sides actually seeks

Also to add, just because one person has it rough does not necessarily lessen or fully erase the reasoning of the two

I find it rather tragic how they end up becoming a villain later on in the story. And the author did a good job on making the readers sympathize with the fl despite her actions. However if the roles are reverse I know majority of the sympathy will go elsewhere.

I decided not to go along with the default favoritism since it's always the case in manhwas. Every character in this manhwa is not very likable to me to be honest with you, but I'm pretty much down on dissecting their characters.

Since I see that majority of the readers obviously sides with Thalia I would love to challenge that opinion to see if everyone is open to understanding other character's reasoning or is it only limited to one person

Oh I'm not implying they have to accept her cause they have it better. Nor am I implying that their struggles cancel out just cause Thalia is in a worse situation. I'm just saying that comparing their situations is pretty difficult since they're supposed to contrast each other. Since the very beginning peace was never an option between them. Cause how could it be? The siblings lost their mother to a snake so it makes sense they wouldn't want anything to do with Thalia. And Thalia learned some unhealthy behaviors as a defense mechanism so all of their interactions turn into and even bigger disaster. And let's not forget that Gareth is a ticking time bomb that is destined to explode and we just don't know how big the radius is yet.

Personally I find myself more on Thalia's side mostly cause I pity her like you would a child in a situation with no way out. Because she's destined to die. Whether it's from a monster attack, miscarriage, self harm, war or Gareth finally becoming emperor - there is no happiness in the way she's written. Hopefully it'll start changing now with how the plot is going but I wouldn't be shocked if her meeting a tragic end was kept in anyway. Because that's who Thalia is - a stepping stone, tool or an obstacle. She's a means to an end. She has no goal, no plan on how to proceed forward. She just exists in this world and she's not even trying to stay alive very hard. She's kinda like a side character that somehow ended up with all this spotlight on them.

And when it comes to the siblings I just don't know enough about them, their story and motivations to pity them beyond how their situation looks like from the surface. All we know is that they have main character qualities but life flipped on them and the author of the novel wants to tell us the story about a tragic side character instead.

I completely understand your point tho. I also love talking to people and discovering how they understand the story. I wanna ask questions like "why do you think Barkas is a bad male lead?", "why do you think the knight should be the ML instead?" and "why do you think Thalia is a villainess?". What I personally find most interesting is the dynamic between the siblings and how Barkas both restrains them and is one of the reasons the conflict keeps getting worse. How he's the one keeping balance when he probably doesn't want to but the oath forces him to keep being involved.

We understand where all the characters are coming from, dear. You make it sound like we don’t haha. It’s not that deep. If you favor misplaced anger and physical violence as a form of trauma response it’s alright to say so. You’d rather that than pitying the obvious underdog simply to have a different opinion is how it sounds like and it shows.
