They're different things. The terms might be different due to translation and the author's omegaverse setting, but there's one where alpha/omega douse their partner in their pheromone (could be for protection or warning for other alpha/omega, but if it's from non-partner it's a sexual harassment) in korean it's usually called marking 마킹 afaik, and there's forming a mating bond and it's called imprinting/bonding 각인. It's not really a new concept that there's a temporary imprint and permanent imprint. Anyway the parent was talking about marking while uke has problem with his imprint.
