it’s very obvious imo when an author draws their art around a story they’ve clearly already drafted up vs when an author crafts a story around their art style. typically the latter is half assed and has to revolve around some sort of sex-driven plotline.

Sometimes I think comments exaggerate but I know some of them are there for one thing and one thing only but tbh sometimes I get uninterested if they do end up doing it like halfway through and I can never finish the story idk why but it’s a curse call me weird but I can’t help it

I love when smut scenes are making love not just fucking. Like there was one story recently I was really enjoying until the first time and it just felt so focused on them cracking every other scene past that.(manhattan romance if anyone is wondering) and I’ve had it happen with SOOO many stories. Like my top stories either dont have smut, or it’s not enough to drive the plot. My top three are payback, which while it does have smut it doesn’t happen til there is a lot of development between the characters and there’s tons of tension instead. Reunion which has three that are genuinely the most beautiful intimate scenes I’ve ever read. And then netkama punch which doesnt have any. I wish more stories didnt feel the pressure to add them because it ends up feeling forced in

I mean I understand that part of it, but at some point I feel like it should be recognized how damaging it is. If you can't survive through a story without the flood of chemicals that your brain gets when you see sexual stuff then ya need a little detox lmao.
BUT that requires some type of self awareness to recognize when you need to take a step back. Unfortunately a lot of people don't see the issue with it so they don't take the time to heal that part of their brain.
Also, a lot of us started reading BL very young and unfortunately got introduced to sexual situations when we shouldn't have had access to it. I feel like this is a huge contribution to the problem tbh. One of the first BL mangas I read was Koisuru Boukun on KissManga and LORDDDDD I should not have been reading that as a kid lmfao. Idek what kinda infuelnce that had on my brain and its perception of certain things.

Yeahhhhh I have dropped a good amount of stories cuz the plot has just been pushed to the side and they just fuck every chance they get. Like omg I get it but I wanna know wtf is happening in the plot. I start to feel icky sometimes cuz I'll be binging a lot of stories and then I just realize I've been laying in bed for hours just looking at people sex lmaoooo and I'll just have to cleanse my brain with some fluff

YES! This! Sometimes it feels like a story is only created cuz someone has a good art style so they feel like they have to create SOMETHING. That's why I really like when artists adapt novels instead of trying to create a story when they kind of don't have the skillset for it (some artists are blessed with both the skills of art and writing though lol). Some people have the genuine artistry at creating a story and building up an actual universe and some people dont but thats okayyyy lol.

I feel like you’d love Shutline if you haven’t read it. They walk that perfect line (in my opinion, maybe most of the audience) of great art, consistently thought out plot and chemistry driven sex scenes. Not just mindless porn.

Literally some of my faves for intimacy, Shutline, The Broken Ring and My Sunny Days give me the feeling of being provided fresh air after being Dutch Oven-ed for days.

I think something that bothers me as much (or even MORE) than authors coasting on “sex sells” and sprinkling one scene of plot for every 10 scenes of porn, is seeing art so egregious that you have to question what the fuck you’re looking at.

There have been moments I’ve wondered who green lit the designs for the entire slop spectrum, hetero to BL, because who the fuck are they using as a reference to generate what are essentially caricatures of the human body.

Women who look like toddlers with melons, men with giant breasts and assholes disturbingly similar in structure/position to vaginas than to actual assholes.

Yeah that why I said it is also an addictionbecause pointing it at it extreme help to understand how grave it can be on people, I also think porn addiction is kinda hard see from an inside perspective but also outside one because this is something that is in general very private.
Personally I was lucky I started with BL that didn't have sex content in it.all the people I know who read BL started around the same age as me (around 12) ans we didn't start the same why and now the grown ass person that I am realised something about how this kind of stories are marketed, we know that sexual content is for adult even when I was younger but it was marketed as if it was for teenagers and that is a big problem, and if you had up the mindset around this age when it comes to sexual content whether the person is educated or not, it just end up being a shit show
