This is solely my opinion, which is evolving as the times change- and the industry as well (seemingly for the better!)
I tend to prefer BL. Mostly because I tend to blend easier reading from a male lens (I don’t know why or how) but also because I felt like authors weren’t giving GL equal creativity for plot as BL. It felt like the same couple settings recycled.
Don’t get me wrong! Nothing is original and BL will run their base tropes ragged, but at least they’re not afraid of out of pocket scenarios that have you second guessing what you’re even reading.
BL is also disturbingly full of darker works, like Killing Stalking (technicality.) GL really needs to tap into the broken female mind more.
i personally think you just havent read a whole lot of GLs*, the one im currently reading, Gunjou, explores super dark themes mainly murder, suicidal ideating and domestic abuse, do give it a read if ure actually looking for darker types of stories (tho the art for this one might be hard to get thru at first)
everyone has their preferences but ngl saying GL doesnt explore these topics is honestly incorrect as personally ive found more GLs that have gritty and original plots than BLs. also the sheer amount of BLs being produced yearly compare to GLs might be a reason for this* as GLs are already less popular compared to BLs so they get drowned out farther, i get how it can be harder to come across more stories even if ure avidly searching for them

Gl or bl. Which do u like moreeee ?ヾ(☆▽☆)
