Why does the manhwa author keep inventing the story instead of following the novel? I don't get it. It's so important the Angelique party scene...
In the novel, the Duke's Father Heirloom is stolen by Arthur and offered as a prize during an Angelique party.
Harriet discovers it and decides to disguise herself as Bella — so that bitch can taste her own medicine — and take it back: she knows what it means to lose your own parents' belongings and she wants to make Cedric happy without hurting his pride. So she joins the party and with a smart move — oh man, she is so clever to get it — she wins the brooch over all the other participants and brings it back to Cedric.
But when Cedric discovers what she did — Edgar had participated too with the same purpose — he wasn't happy at all. He gets mad instead: he knows that at those parties it's mandatory to bring Angelique, and Edgar tells him that she was almost raped because of it... And last but not least, he also discovers that she went to the party with a famous player, Tez (Bella's secret lover) — 'cause she needed a partner and he offered to help her. And THIS drives him even more crazy.
They argue and he e tosses the brooch into the fountain, saying he doesn't give a shit about a mere old brooch.
She is bewildered: she had gone to the party because of him, to make him happy by giving back his father's keepsake and he tosses it? She can't stand it and she literally jumps into the fountain to take it out and shove it at Cedric. Then she shouts that if the brooch doesn't mean anything to him, what about her? She was sent to a convent for a year because of it!
After holding back tears, she turns away, ready to go back home totally drenched.
And it's in THAT moment that Cedric, seeing her retreating figure, understands: he feels for her. He gets mad because he loves her and he is jealous… So he chases Harriet and hugs her from behind, whispering his apologies.
Man, it's one of the best scenes in the novel — a chef's kiss IMO. Cedric, who never shows his feelings and acts cold, high and mighty and indifferent, is totally undone by her reckless but brave act. This is an important part of the novel...
And what does the manhwa author do? He removes the whole scene and invents a new one: if they attend the Angelique party together just to investigate, the whole scene can't happen.
