I don't blame mc for accepting that money, it's too much of a large sum to ignore. However, it's foolish of him if he thinks it's truly for ml's "benefits" to have his mother spy on him like that. Ik mc cares for ml, but now that money is involved, it makes him look superficial instead and that would make him fake in the eyes of ml in turn.
