The chapter that ends with Elizabeth saying she witnessed Anastasia being a serpent one night made me think my hunch was probably right. Her trash father, not even knowing whether Anastasia was his daughter, probably tried doing some shxt to her. And the dead son who also sounds like he was obsessed with her, probably killed his own father. That whole scene was iffy af. Falling off the horse and dying? The horse being scared of the son? Yeah, he killed his dad and then asked his mother to keep Anastasia safe while he went to war or whatever so he’d have her to himself. These types of stories love to make it seem like just by being beautiful, a woman is at fault for the men fawning over her. I can already see the wife and daughters taking that stance soon enough.
The ML is interesting to me. I thought he’d be genuinely kind but the fact that he preferred the brown haired sister over her prettier blonde sister just because she was obvious about what she wanted showed he’d have more to him. And it’s funny how he’s thinking of Anastasia as prey but is clearly already falling for her and all over himself to make her feel better when she cries. Now I just need her to learn proper manners and actually grow up because 10 years may have passed, but she’s still a child inside. She needs to have the brains to understand the people she’s facing and not to easily fall in the ML’s hands either. I don’t dislike him, but I dislike the idea that she could fall for him without knowing anything about herself, people, and just the world as a whole.
