Cat owners please help

Pusheenfox July 25, 2026 2:10 am

My sister just brought home a little kitten… what should I know about kittens?
I’ll be alone with it for 8+ hours until summer ends, so any tips I can get from veteran cat owners would be greatly appreciated

We’re planning to keep her! As far as I know, she’s a couple months old and she’s going to the vet by the end of the month!
ANY advice would be appreciated! ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ

Tips for kitten, make sure you supervise it getting homesick, once it gets depression it's kinda hard to take care, tips would be : patience, clean litter box 1-2 a day. Try potty train as early as possible, sardines for snack as well as tuna, don't bath the kitten often and do not wash it's head directly you can wipe them down with a wet cloth

ooh alr and where did you find her??? Well she is still very small but kitten at that age r very playful so make sure to play with her and get her scratchers otherwise the kitten might start scratching he furniture with no point of return. (if she does start scratching the furniture js correct her by taking her away to the nearest scratcher tbh make it playful lols) and never ever use water spray bottles to dyscypline the cat it will js destroy the bond between yall.
I think she is also in the purrfect age for some desentsitizing(picking up, touching her paws, ears, or showing teeth gently.) it will help her be more comfortable with touch in the future like giving meds and overall comfort in touch.
if you don't plan on brushing cat's teeth which most people don't, dry food is an alternative.(give her dry food for kittens tho since her teeth are probablt weaker than adults kittens) make it accesible at all times but don't give too much in the bowl because then cats can overeat and their stomach's can't handle it they end up puking lol..
and cats tend to not drink a lot of water so make sure you water down the wet food you give her!
(I give wet food two times a day once in the morning and second time at 14:00-15:00) <-- and if you have cans or idk whatever you have ur wet cat food in, split it in two half in the morning half later so the kitty doesn't get fat lols.
obvi give her lots of love and play with her since kittens are very playful!!! and if she's shedding lot's of fur, brush her lol my cats love brushing maybe urs will too. Also remember to change the litter box at least once a day since cats don't like their toilet dirty just like us humans. anddd that's it for now I think pet her for me plsss I bet she is so cute aaaa i love kittens

If you ever want stop holding the kitten/cat then its best to make sure you safely put i down on the ground never let your kitty jump out of your arms this ruins the trust and bond you must let the kitties 4 paws touch ground gently and then let it go

Do not play with it directly with your hands or let it bite you if it bite or scratches you leve it alone and ignore it so it learns not to do that try rubbing it's belly so it can get used to it and enjoy belly rubs when it's an adult give it lots of attention and pets but don't be to overbearing respect it's boundaries talk to it catscan build up a vocabulary if you talk to them enough remember that it's a baby and be patient with it don't feed it any human food that is not meat and don't feed it super seasoned meat some cats like cantaloupe and other similar melons if you have house plant don't let it eat them don't give it to many treats if you hold it make sure you have your hand under its bum don't hold it by it's paws that it like it's a little kid don't kick it kittens are fragile be careful not to step on it if it hisses at you leave it alone if you have any follow up questions feel free to ask I have had cat for my whole life and I have read lots of books on cat behavior and I would love to answer any questions anyone has about cat care

Keep it in one room for the first couple weeks before letting rome freely in your house or apartment you have it feed it specifically kitten food and not adult cat food don't leave it home alone for long periods of time I would recommend getting another kitten from the shelter after you vacinate it cats are very social and are generally happier if they can be with other cats
Please spay or neuter it there are too many cats who don't have homes and most shelters are over capacity and some shelters will euthanize animals if the have to many they will also be a lot happier if they are spayed or neutered

Also if you do get her a buddy if she is a girl cat I would recommend getting a boy cat since boy cats are generally friendlier also would recommend a black kitten since they have a harder time getting adopted because of superstition but generally chose based on how friendly they are
