It's nothing complicated. Oftentimes, artists end up just focusing on the act of drawing itself.
Once you draw something so detailed, you stop thinking about what you're drawing and you just zone out by adding more detail. The more time you spend drawing something, the more it all turns into lines and shapes instead of the subject matter itself.
It's a curse since artists have to consciously make an effort to stop themselves to decide "that's enough" since there are neverending ways to add onto the piece.
Yeah i agree the whole animal transformation and the wetness is a bit overkill
