This story is written well enough that I'm just observing it like a nature documentary. I feel somewhat the same way about the Snake who swallowed the pomegranate.
This one, the rule is to do whatever it takes to survive. So I can't really blame how anyone is really acting. Like do zombies remember? If they don't completely kill a human off, just banish them instead, do they come back and bring hordes because they know the direction? Can't keep other makeshift communes alive, we are battling for resources. So I get it. It's not pretty, but I get it. The current village wants to rebel? I get it. The current rule is really harsh and rules by insanity and fear.
I get it all. I don't know what will happen next and I'm kind of excited for it.
