I'm not done reading the novel..( I dropped it a while ago then came back after the manhwa adaptation) So basically Emperor Laios actually liked Duke vilmar but the Duke actually hated the emperor cuz he has a fiance (ellica or aka the girl whose corpse is inside the dukes dungeon or smth) they broke up or something after that ellica when after the emperor so da Duke got jealous or smth and befriended da emperor for that (just like Richard and caelus tbh) but he was secretly backstabbing him like putting bits of poision inside his food and lots more But da emperor didn't want her, he wanted da Duke But da Duke insisted ellica and him should get married but da emperor refused cuz he said that she was his former fiance so lwk like disrespect but da Duke still insisted. They got married anyway but bad things happening, ellica got poisoned and almost died and idk da emperor blamed da Duke and she died of birth complications while she was trying to birth caelus le regnantia and blamed it on him, da emperor said he cursed or smth Da emperor didn't want caelus cuz he got his genes instead of ellica's genes and idk he didn't want caelus Vilmar liked Laios too I think idk Doomed old yaoi at it's finest Sorry if this is too long
