A thought just occurred to me. Mine and Nagisa are clearly out of commission, seeing how they have not attempted to reach the twins in all this time. It is suggested that the West, Nishino village, took part in their disappearance. The West have the power to turn corpses into new daemons that previously did not exist (ch 42).
Here's where there's a gap in story lore and I am to make an inference with the aforementioned information. Nagisa and Mine disappeared when heading to Okinawa, and the grandma is subsequently shown to be controlled by an unknown pair of spider daemons... daemons with faces plastered on their backs. Were these daemons created from the West's powers? Unknown. But knowing how the author has handled FMA with the girl and the dog... I would not be surprised if a tragedy was waiting for the readers regarding the reason for the parents disappearence. Especially with how much the author has set up to make us want to believe that the parents are still alive.
I would be really happy if someone could prove me wrong with existing lore or hints from the story because I also desperately want the parents to be alive (for Asa and Yuru's sake). These poor kids have suffered more than enough.
