I read a lot of comments expressing how the ML is "very" toxic. I agree that his actions give me the ick, but I also understand where dude is coming from and why he acts so. Erna, our mc forgives and moves on, because of 2 reasons, one, her grandmother who raised her to be mentally strong and independent and two, her experience with Björn being the only relationship she has ever had. So lack of dating experience and upright childhood gave birth to her personality in the story. Now, let's look at our ML. Bro was the crown prince, heavy responsibility, plus was damn good at his job. Got engaged to a princess from another kingdom and she was alr pregnant with another man's child. And he couldn't expose that due to political pressure. So he tried his best to get the good out of everything. But we see how he never healed himself out of it. He was taught to put his country's interests before his own. His actions are justified because he is very immature in his private affairs yet very intelligent in everything else. And add to this, his own insecurities about trusting women. So, if we had seen Erna's character be the "baddie" we want, Björn would never heal, because he will remain stoic and brute. And if Björn was "soft", Erna could never learn to stand up for her own well-being. In a way, we are being shown two characters who have to go through similar life experiences but comes out with different reactions and consequences. If y'all feel that the panels for Björn's redemption is short, go read the novel. And the title is literally a bait for us to get hooked into the story. Björn is the problematic prince because he made his image so, in truth, he needed someone like Erna who could look past his misdeeds and change him into a better person. In reality, people don't even become better after countless life lessons, they just get stuck with a toxic cycle of regret and bad decisions.
