There's flashback of that old man that shows he is not normal like a mental disability. He thinks differently than others so our common sense is not his common sense. Hope he will be gone after this.

Literally witness the MC almost killing a man for harming his wife. And thinks "welp I should totally sacrifice his wife and child, nothing bad will happen to me". I know the author is just trying to push the plot forward by making Gus a villain, but they could have made him a smart one at least. I know he isn't the "big bad guy" but anyone with half a braincell will realize this plan will backfire immediately!
