I think it's honestly people with middle school reading abilities. English isn't anyone's strong suite anymore.
They don't understand context clues or connections in stories.
It's exactly as you say it is though. 2ML is still yearning for the tutor, but is also very shallow: as in, he only looks for beauty and not personality.
But this story does a really great job of 1ML's point-of-view, and how he loves MC because his personality is fun and always exciting.
Now that we're at the episode where we see WHY 2ML calls 1ML a "killer". And if you can infer with context clues, you'll know why without having to ask questions.
Even though MC knows 1ML had a good reason for it. That's what sealed the deal between them.
Maybe it's just cause uploads are weekly but how are people confused by this and saying the current arc/chapters are useless? The story is pretty clear cut and easy to follow along if you read it in one setting. No hidden agendas, pretty obvious intentions, etc etc. the current arc is literally explaining why 2nd ml likes mc and shows how ml likes mc for who he is, not for the tutor.
