I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly sympathize with the older sister more than the heroine. I'm not excusing everything she did, but once her backstory is revealed, it's hard not to understand how she became who she was.
At the same time, I don't think the younger sister is completely blameless. Yes, she was sheltered and protected, but at some point she had the freedom to question things. Why did her sister act like a demon? Why was the kingdom suffering? Why did everything seem so wrong? Curiosity is a choice too.
To me, that's what makes this story tragic. One sister carried every burden alone, while the other lived in blissful ignorance. Neither deserved their fate, but I can't see the younger sister as completely innocent either.
