As someone with a half sister who is wheelchair bound, I never really thought about the maintenance of it all. Thankfully for her, it’s her legs that are paralysed and as far as I can tell, she can pee and poop unassisted. She’s now a double amputee and finding that to be far far better than being paralysed and having to lug around her legs. It’s given me a new found appreciation for the difficulty people in wheelchairs face. My only real life experience with it is my sister and my cat who needed a catheter for a few days due to a blocked urethra. Although I helped my mum at her work in the care homes and helped my mum when she was basically bed bound after giving birth and dealing with cancer, I’ve never actually helped anyone wheelchair bound, only people who use them temporarily. I never realised I was still so ignorant despite knowing a lot about this topic. I’m glad we are seeing more disability rep in manga. It’s different seeing it rather than just reading about it!
