Anyway my theory... both Yamada and Muroi blushed when they saw each other (and Muroi hid lol), and Yamada was caught staring at Muroi, so maybe they used to like each other...? Part of me thinks that she asked Kagiura if the team knows they used to date as a sneaky way to ask if Muroi knows because if Muroi knows that his senpai dated her, maybe he would feel awkward about any potential relationship between the two. Like "oh thats my friend and senpai's ex girlfriend that would be awkward" or something. Obviously i dont know enough about their dynamic to make any solid guesses but this is my take for now
I'm rereading this chapter like its my bible and I'm seeing a lot of ppl misunderstanding this situation or simply being oblivious so I'm gonna try to clear it up:
Yamada and Kagiura used to date in middle school. We see this referenced in three chapters: 6, 7, and 16. It is also talked about in the novel.
Muroi first appeared as a character in chapter 26. It's not until this chapter that we're clear on the fact that Muroi also went to middle school with Kagiura, and they have clearly been friends since then. It's not clear whether or not Muroi knows that Yamada and Kagiura used to date, but it's clear that Yamada and Muroi know each other, and both got flustered upon seeing each other.
Then, at the water fountain, Yamada asks Kagiura if any of his teammates know that they are exes. (Now this isn't a crazy thing to ask because we literally see Kagiura (and Muroi) recognize her and call her by her name when they see her. Then Kagiura is asked if he knows her. Many people would answer "yeah thats my ex" if asked. Kagiura didn't, but that doesn't make the question invalid).
All of that above is what we know for sure. What we don't know is Yamada and Muroi's relationship and some context from Kagiura's relationship with both of them in middle school... which is what I'm hoping we get next chapter, I'm very curious. But I'm seeing people jump to call Yamada names and label her as some attention seeker, and also people completely... not reading what she said. And also seemingly not fitting Muroi's role in this correctly. We literally don't know their relationship yet.
Anyway, lets chillax with conclusions and the thinly veiled misogyny at the audacity of a girl showing up and asking questions like, do yall think she still likes him? Or that Kagiura's gonna cheat on Hirano or something? Calm down
