I don't get the stereotypical plot of "we were so close, but you've forgotten me", like I get that your memory can get foggy, but if they were in high school and now he is a college student, that means it's only been like around 5 years. That's not a long enough time to forget about someone you hung out with every single day, especially if you built such a close relationship with them!
